The organizing committee welcomes all proposals focused on Cicero’s Catilinarians and Philippics, considered as “discourses of memory.” Presentations may explore, among other topics:
- The construction and shaping of memory in these speeches, whether related to Cicero’s personal and political memory or the collective memory of the res publica.
- The commemoration of deeds and individuals, and the emergence of exempla and monumenta in Cicero’s rhetorical strategies.
- The reception of uox Ciceronis as uox rei publicae after Cicero’s death in works by Seneca the Elder, Valerius Maximus, or Velleius Paterculus.
Proposals for presentations, limited to one page (excluding essential bibliography), must be submitted along with a brief CV (max. 2 pages) to the scientific committee by March 3, 2025. Selected papers may be considered for publication in an edited volume.
Presentations, lasting 30 minutes, can be delivered in German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Latin, and Portuguese.
Notifications of acceptance will be sent at the beginning of April. The conference will take place at Lyon 3 University, on 6-7 nov. 2025.
